Registered Organization Orientation

Registered Organization Resource Handbook (PDF)

Completing an Orientation is required for any new group that has never been a registered organization at Illinois. As such, prior to gaining registered status by the University, the president of that organization must complete a Registered Organization Orientation. Because the topics discussed at the orientation are relevant to all organizations, naturally any RSO may attend. Any member of the proposed organization may attend the orientation, although it is encouraged that the president or another executive board member attends. It is expected that whoever does attend will share the information with the organization.

The Orientation will focus on:
  1. Organization mission, goals, purposes, and objectives; and,
  2. University policies, procedures, services, and resources.

After an organization has registered their new organization on the CollegiateLink website, they will receive an email instructing them to register for the New Organization Orientation. Additionally, the treasurer of the organization must attend a treasurer’s workshop. Once the president and treasurer have attended and received credit for both workshops, the organization will be approved.

Topics of interest covered during the workshop include:
  • Requirements for gaining registered organization status;
  • Student Code policies
  • Event/Program planning
  • Space Request forms and reserving university facilities
  • Organization Fund Account management and generating revenue on campus
  • SORF Guidelines and Policies
  • OFAB allocations and appropriations
  • Website/NetFiles services
  • Equipment reservations
  • Illini Union ReSOurce Center & Student Organization Complex
  • Information on archiving the activities of your organization
