Registered Organization Orientation

Registered Organization Resource Handbook (PDF)

Completing an Orientation is required for any new group that has never been a registered organization at Illinois. As such, prior to gaining registered status by the University, an authorized agent for that organization must complete a Registered Organization Orientation. Because the topics discussed at the orientation are relevant to all organizations, naturally any RSO may attend.

The Orientation will focus on:
  1. Organization mission, goals, purposes, and objectives; and,
  2. University policies, procedures, services, and resources.

After an organization has submitted their online application and submitted their signed Policy of Non-Discrimination form to the Office, then the organization will be required to attend one of these orientations. Upon these two steps being completed, a staff member in the Office of Registered Organization will contact the president notifying him/her that they should now register for an Orientation. Registered status will not be granted to any new group until they have completed the orientation. Groups that have been registered before do not need to attend the orientation to retain registered status.

Any member of the proposed organization may attend the orientation, although it is encouraged that the president or another executive board member attends. It is expected that whoever does attend will share the information with the organization.

Topics of interest covered during the workshop include:
  • Requirements for gaining registered organization status;
  • Student Code policies
  • Event/Program planning
  • Space Request forms and reserving university facilities
  • Organization Fund Account management and generating revenue on campus
  • SORF Guidelines and Policies
  • OFAB allocations and appropriations
  • Website/NetFiles services
  • Equipment reservations
  • Illini Union ReSOurce Center & Student Organization Complex
