Student Organization Resource Fee
The Student Organization Resource Fee (SORF) was established in 1978 to support programs and activities of Registered Organizations.
- SORF is a mandatory (but refundable*) $12 fee collected each semester from all UIUC students.
- SORF fee dollars finance the operations of Student Legal Services and Tenant Union. Student Legal Services provides students with legal counsel and related support. Tenant Union provides information and assistance regarding housing, lease agreements, and landlord complaint statistics.
- The remaining fee money is available for allocation to Registered Student Organizations that apply for funding from SORF. Fundable categories include contractual services including transportation and lodging expenses, film, equipment, rentals (facility, equipment, services) and publications/communications. SORF also provides financial support to offset the cost of off-campus travel for educational, competitive, performance, and service experiences that are relevant to the organization’s mission.
- A funding board comprised of elected students and appointed staff is responsible for allocating money generated from SORF fees to Student Legal Services, Tenant Union, and Registered Student Organizations.
*Programs and services are available to students unless they receive a SORF refund. If a student receives a refund, their access to resources and services from SORF, Student Legal Services, and/or Tenant Union are relinquished.
Students who receive a SORF refund will NOT be reimbursed for any expenses. Similarly, reimbursement will not be made to a parent, guardian, relative, friend, etc. that paid on behalf of a student that received a SORF refund.
