Student Organization Resource Fee
Funding Process
Every semester the SORF Board is responsible for making recommendations to the Vice
Chancellor for Student Affairs on specific funding levels for the different
organizations. Each year, SORF receives in excess of 600 applications for funding, and
usually these requests amount to about four times the funding available! This constraint
prevents the SORF Board from funding in full all organization requests.
SORF funding supports the programs and activities of an organization. This means each
organization must submit a realistic estimate of the specific costs involved for each
program on the SORF Funding Application. Additionally, a detailed description of each
event must accompany the cost estimates. For a complete list of guidelines, please see
the
SORF Guidelines and Restrictions.
The SORF Board considers each Funding Application independently, evaluating each on its
own merit. When making its decision, the Board takes into consideration a number of
factors, such as:
- Event open to all UIUC students
- The range of experiences the program can provide
- Program expenses compared to the number of students served
- Other sources of funding for the event
- Compliance with Guidelines and Restrictions
The above list is just a portion of the total decision process involved in making the
funding recommendations to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
