Why You Should Not Request Your Sorf Refund
Student Organization Resource Fee
Why you should not request your SORF refund
Your $14 SORF fee goes toward the promotion of student activity and life on campus. There are more than 900 registered student organizations on campus each year, of which 300-350 apply for SORF funding each semester. The programs and activities of these organizations that SORF supports add tremendously to the diversity of the university and help to enhance student life on the UIUC campus. Whether you take an active role in a SORF-sponsored organization or not, you still enjoy the benefits these groups provide to campus.
Your $14 SORF fee also funds and gives you access to the Tenant Union. Located in Illini Union room 326, the Tenant Union provides information to students regarding housing, including references such as landlord complaint statistics.
Finally, the SORF fee funds and allows you access to Student Legal Services. If you are in need of legal assistance, an attorney can be provided ONLY if you have not received a SORF refund. Fourteen dollars is not much to pay for an attorney, and if you find yourself in a position where you need help, you'll be glad that you didn't get your SORF refund.
