The Levis Center opened October of 1972 in honor of William E. Levis and Margaret Harris Levis in honor of their generosity and dedicated service to the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign.
After their respective graduations from the university, they each served on the UI Foundation and in 1968, Mrs. Levis pledged a generous donation to aid in the development of a faculty center for the campus.
The Levis Center operated as an exclusive faculty "club" for seven years. In 1979, the focus of the building was shifted to accommodate the entire campus. Its five distinct spaces provide accommodations for varied activities and events.
It has been transformed into a place for the community to pursue social opportunities, host lectures and educational fare and provide the necessary space for workshops and conferences. Wedding receptions are just another example of the versatility of the building, as is its unique architecture and design.
