Illini Union

The Illini Union will be undergoing a complete roof replacement starting after university graduation (May 12) in 2024. The replacement project will take approximately two years with a projected completion date in late 2026.

The Illini Union will be operational throughout the construction. However, the fourth floor meeting rooms and offices (north end), as well as the fourth floor hotel rooms (south end), will not be accessible for significant periods of time during the project. The west entrance and patio (facing Altgeld Hall) and the south patio and Anniversary Plaza (facing the Quad) will also have closures throughout the work timeline. During construction, there will be periodic sidewalk, drive, and parking lot closures, as well as extensive scaffolding, cranes, and construction staging areas surrounding the building. There will be overhead protection covering all other entrances, which will remain accessible during construction.

For departments, organizations, and RSOs that host annual events at the Illini Union, event staff will work with you to find alternative spaces if you utilize any of the affected areas.

During the roof replacement construction, we will post ongoing updates to this page, along with monthly update emails sent to building partners.
